Ho-ho-hooo! Christmas is nearly upon us and I’m sure some of you out there are looking for some last minute gift ideas. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite spiritual resources which are all just a click away on Amazon* to avoid that last minute scramble around the shops! If you know anyone who might appreciate this airy-fairy stuff, or even if you’ve enjoyed my last couple of posts and would like treat yourself to your own gift and delve a little deeper into the concepts I’ve talked about, I have gotten huge value out of each item below and think any one of them would make a fantastic stocking filler.
Conversations with God – Neale Donald Walsch (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
This book (or series of books) are simply amazing. Describing a conversation between the author and what he identifies as “God”, this book does a great job of explaining the laws of the universe to even the most sceptical reader – represented in the conversation by the author himself. Book 1 is a great stand-alone, but here are links to the full trilogy (Amazon US) (Amazon UK) if you fancy splashing out a little more!
Ask And It Is Given – Abraham-Hicks (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
This is another one that blew my mind when I read it. Describing a lot of the same concepts as Conversations with God, it is more explicit in its reference to the Law of Attraction, and the second half of the book includes real-life processes you can try out to increase your vibrational frequency and harness the energy of the universe in an even stronger way. Give it a chance and you won’t regret it.
Buddhist Boot Camp – Timber Hawkeye (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
This was a great little random find in a bookshop one day and has become one of my favourite books. Filled with short stories and vignettes from the author’s life, each tale has a message about how general Buddhist principles can be applied in everyday life. Each chapter is stand-alone and only a page or two long so it’s lovely to pick up and just open a random page. One that you will go back to again and again.
The Mindfulness Colouring Book – Emma Farrarons (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
This little gem is one of the trailblazers in the growing popularity of adult colouring books. Although kids would love this one too! It is A5 size so not too big and bulky, and there are lots of different patterns and pictures to transform into your own personal works of art according to whatever mood you’re in. Mindfulness is about immersing yourself in the moment, and there is something really meditative and rewarding about sitting down to focus on filling in these white spaces with pretty colours. I really enjoy taking it out every once in a while to quiet my mind in a creative way. A lovely stress-reducing gift.
Gratitude Journal: A Daily Appreciation (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
I’ve mentioned #gratitude several times in this blog so far, and will be going much deeper into the profound power of summoning a deep feeling of gratitude, regardless of your circumstances. I’ve talked about how chanting nam myoho renge kyo raises your vibrational frequency to align with the Law of Attraction, and gratitude alone works in much the same way. It lifts your spirits, makes you happier, and ultimately through the LOA brings about more of that which you are feeling grateful for. This is a lovely little journal filled with inspirational quotes and a short space to record something you are grateful for each day. An ideal gift coming into a New Year!
Notes From The Universe Perpetual Calendar – Mike Dooley (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
I’ve been lucky enough to see the amazingly energetic Mike Dooley speaking several times, and am an avid fan of his daily Notes From The Universe emails. This perpetual calendar can be used year after year, and is another way of receiving these uplifting messages on a daily basis. They are so enjoyable to read, delivered in such a fun and lively tone, and more often than not contain guidance that is scarily apt for whatever you need to hear at the time. Just today a friend told me it’s a little creepy how well they fit. Creepy maybe, but the thrilling kind! I’ve had this calendar for two years already and absolutely love it. It is a perfect way of giving a daily boost to a loved one (or yourself!) for years to come.
Angel Prayers Oracle Cards – Kyle Gray (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
I must admit, the whole talking-to-angels thing was something I really resisted the most after getting into this spiritual arena – until I realised that “angels” can be seen as just another way of referring to the universe at large. It’s also not beyond the realms of possibility that there may be individual spiritual entities within the greater energetic whole, just as we are individual physical entities within that whole. In any case, these oracle cards are beautifully designed, fun to use and can be very insightful. The angels (or universe or whatever term you prefer) guide your card choice to present you with whatever advice you need for whatever you are dealing with at that moment. Some of the most profoundly apt cards I’ve seen are the ones that literally jump out of the deck while I’m shuffling! A lovely gift for anyone.
Ka-fuh Japanese Cypress Incense (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Since I discovered these subtle little sticks, they have become the only incense I burn at home. Made without a wooden or bamboo core, these sticks produce little to no smoke which really works for anyone who might be sensitive to the smoke produced by other incense products. The cypress blossom scent itself is light and airy, and always bring a sense of peace and tranquillity to my home. Highly recommended for anyone who likes smelly stuff!
Avatar (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
I guess you already know about this movie from the impressive 3D CGI which was the main talking point when it was released. But this is also one of the most spiritual mainstream movies I have ever watched. The connection the Na’vi people have with their environment and each other perfectly represents the interconnectedness of the universal energy I have spoken about on this blog. I could watch this movie over and over again, and maybe you’d like to try watching it with a more conscious awareness that the world of Avatar isn’t all that alien to this big ball of energy we live in.
Invisible Journeys – Tim Wheater (Amazon US) (Amazon UK)
Last but not least, a feast for the ears! Tim Wheater creates the most soothing, haunting, moving music I have ever heard. Listening to his work is like floating on air. I have chosen this album in particular because he has created beautiful melodies around many different chanting mantras, including nam myoho renge kyo. Ideal for background bliss while you’re colouring in your Mindfulness Colouring Book with the scent of Japanese Cypress in the air!
